Hey all. I'm replacing my A/C system in my 88 2.9 ranger. I was trying to find a Motorcraft Compressor but I can't find one anywhere. any thoughts on what's best to put in it and/or best aftermarket to put in it?

Are you trying to source an A/C compressor specifically?

Yeah if you got any recommendations at all they would be gladly taken. But I'm looking for the best possible compressor something that'll last and not die instantly. I've never replaced one before I understand how just don't know a lot about the different brands and what not.

I don't understand "replacing the a/c system". Has it been diagnosed so you know what it actually needs?

The system is 33 years old the compressor is bad and the filter is shot too so I'm replacing all of it.

If the condenser, hoses and evaporator core aren't leaking I'd flush them thoroughly. The receiver dryer/ suction accumulator would be worth replacing, and probably the compressor. I used a compressor for a Fox body from Napa when I built my truck because I used Fox body brackets and pulleys, along with a Vintage Air system because the truck didn't have a heater box/evaporator case. I used to think reproduction meant Ford didn't build the part, now I know it also means it may kind of fit.

All the lines/ hoses are filled with rust and junk lol so I'm just redoing it all. Just got a new engine so may as well have new A/C. And thank you.

It's apparently been open to the air for a while if it's rusty. What you're doing sounds like what it needs to make it right.

Check out oldairproducts.com. They saved the A/C in my '75 Ranchero.

If you've got your heart set on the original Ford piece then you're looking for a Visteon compressor.
