I just got a 95 Ranger and when I use most of my controls except the dash, and the floor. The compressor ceases. I don't have the a/c on or anything. The plate on the front of the compressor shuts, I guess you can say and then the compressor ceases, when I turn the defrost on.

The compressor will cycle on Ac and on defrost.

? The compessor stops spining and my belt starts to squeal only on certain heat settings. I unpluged the electrical from the compressor and it has stopped ceasing up for now.

I think some clarification is needed here... :icon_confused:

What is "ceasing"?? Do you mean "cycling" (it starting, then stopping)? or "Seizing" (frozen solid, won't turn)?

By your last post, I'm guessing the latter?

If so, it's hosed (probably from being run without freon). Time to replace it, the condenser, and several other components that likely are plugged up with debris from the compressor eating itself.
