We took many Hondas in trade over the years, their reputation was generated by the likes of Consumer Reports, not by real world performance. The company also has an ethics problem. The first person killed by a Takata airbag in a Hinda was documented in 2001, with more cases over the years until the end of 2014 when NHTSA finally forced them to issue a recall.
Oh, Honda is just as scummy as the other manufactures out there for sure.
The models I’ve had direct experience with, other than the Odyssey, were pretty dependable. Some of them certainly had their issues you had to stay on top of though. Like the B20 engine in the Honda CR-Vs and Acura Integras. The transmission in the Odyssey, MDX, early Ridgelines and I think Pilot was an absolute fail. The Passport was an abomination that should have never happened. I forget who they rebadged for that one but it was a P.O.S. before Honda put their name on it.
None of this is meant to say Honda doesn’t make crap. Every vehicle manufacturer makes a bad vehicle. Some more than others.
Hell, the 1981 Mercury Lynx (Ford Escort) I had was perhaps the most underpowered piece of crap I ever owned and I’ve owned some real junkers. It turned me off of the brand for a long time, it was so bad.
