I just wanted to thank all the members who helped me get my M5OD swap FINALLY finished, especially TireIron.
Turns out that my master cylinder was not mounted high enough on the firewall, and therefore the rod was not pushing far enough in. After carefully repositioning it, I started it up and it went into every gear like butter.
Some things about the experience though:
- There were no holes or brackets to line up the master cylinder. It turned out to be a guessing game which ate up way too much time for me.
- The 4R44E seems to be shorter than the M5OD; therefore, my front driveshaft is too short and will not work. I can bolt it up, but it pops every rotation due to the CV joint at the tcase being too far extended from the housing. It looks like I will need to swap tcases or the front output, and possibly get some custom driveshaft work.
- It helps to get a slave cylinder that works from the beginning.
- I totally forgot I have CA emissions, meaning I need to find and hope that Ford made a manual transmission computer with CA emissions; I have a CEL right now throwing a code that the computer can't read the final downstream O2 sensor. I will have to look into this more.
Other than that, it's shifting and running beautifully. Thank you all again, especially TireIron, for all the help and support.
