I came across a b2 for sale for a couple of hundred. It has top top cut off of the back and a roll bar. It says for parts only no title. I was wondering if it can be fixed and driven on the road or would it be off-road only? Also would I even be able to get a title for it?

I'm sure it's possible to get a title. I would call the local DMV and ask them about the process. Last time I was in that situation, they had a "loss title" form to fill out that requires a signature from the previous (Legal) owner, and a bill of sale. I would also run the vin to make sure it's not stolen before making any moves on this one.

Its being sol for off road only because it has no title. You won't be able to register/plate it.

Not really true. Why does it have no title? Did the guy who currently owns it lose it and he is to lazy to file for a new one? Did he buy it from another guy with out a title just to use it for offroad? If so then you can track that guy down and have him file for a lost title. A lost title here in Illinois is only 22 dollars and sometimes well worth it. The worst thing is has that bronco been totalled and put back together by someone and now has a salvage title. Them can be brought back but hoops need to be jumped through with inspections and what not before the state will allow it to be re-titled.

personally i would keep searching for something title in hand unless you really just need parts.

I got my B2 with no title (previous owner died, family couldn't find it.) Getting a title for it was not hard, all I had to do was send a certified letter the the PO stating my intentions, then when I got it back unopened, take it to the court house and tell them what is going on. Fill out a form and two weeks later I have my title.

I am fairly certain that it is also somewhat illegal to accept money for something you don't own (ie, have the title for, in your name,) at least in South Dakota. CYA.

I found out why he's selling it without a title. The state has it because he owes back child support. They won't give it to him until it's paid up. So should I not touch it?

Call the DMV, explain to them what is going on, and find out how hard it's gonna be for you to get the title.

He may find out something that he doesn't like, specifically that any money he gets for this might get taken straight for that back support.

Sounds like they just put a lien on it, which means if you bought it the lien would have to be paid off completely before you got a clear title. Call your DMV and find out what needs to be done...sounds like a lot of work to me... you might end up being way deeper in than the couple hundred he wants.

you may be able to basically pay the money hes asking for it directly to whoever he owes the child support to. they may release the title to you if they get the money from the sale. but i would check to be sure

+2 thru 99........per Robert_
