I have a 1999 Ranger 2WD standard trans V-6 duel fuel motor that has taken all the abuse it can and needs replacement.
Complicating the situation, my soon to be Ex took off in our F-150 leaving me stranded out in the woods with no transportation and flat broke. I'm selling of a few guns and some ammo to finance a replacement engine but I dont know what all will fit.
I'm going to try advertizeing on Freecycle for a wrecked vehicle with a running motor but I need to know what to tell people I am looking for.

I did a number of searches but I'm still confused as to what will fit where.
Is there a conversion list on here somewhere?

I'm a 61 year old blacksmith/knifemaker/welder so I'm not afraid of tackleing a V8 swap but again I dont know what to look for in a donor engine. I quit wrenching for a living about the time they were phaseing out points and carberators so I'm a little behindthe times.

I was given a complete '92 Ranger but I understand that wont fit my '99, right?
Thanks in advance.
I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum. Its sure fine with me if a mod wants to move it to a Ranger specifc forum.

Sounds like you need a 3.0 Vulcan.

You can find those in the Taurus.

Here's an article on that engine you might find helpful.

Many people HAVE put the Taurus engine into a Ranger WITHOUT replacing the head gaskets without having any over-heating problems. Good luck!

OK, thanks, So a Taurus engine wil fit. What years Taurus will fit?

What years regular engines will fit my 99?

Will any other engines other than that from the Tarus fit?

I don't know nothing from nothing about what years will interchange. any help will sure be appreciated.

What do you mean by "regular engines"? There are no differences in the base engine between the flex fuel and "regular" 3.0L OHV.

These engines were found in Rangers, Tauruses, and Windstars.

All the following engines will directly swap into your ranger without having to do modifications to the engine bay. Now if you want to do a V8 Swap you are in for a considerable amount of time, work, and money. I'd avoid the 4Cylinder engines they are a bit small and gutless for any type of work. The V6 engines would work great however the 4.0L V6 seems to get pretty shitty fuel economy, the 3.0L V6 seems to do pretty well.

2.5L 4 Cylinder
3.0L V6
4.0L V6.
