Hey all, I’m new to the forum. I’ve had the same 1999 ranger since 2002. It was a 3.0 4wd that later saw a body lift and 33’s. About 5 years ago I found one of the old whipped superchargers that were made for the 3.0’s and put that on and ran it about 5 years. A couple days ago the crankshaft snapped and now it’s time for a 5.0 swap. I’m looking for a set of the torque monster headers and the adapter plate for the transmission to run the stock transfer case. Any and all advice is welcome. I’m located in north central Oklahoma if any parts are in the area

You are supposed to be converting to electric, not swapping in a gas hog v8. Get with the new government program.

We'll be glad to help along the way with your swap. I've got a '99 with a V8 conversion, and there are several others with similar rigs. There are several writeups in the tech articles to get you started. Read through those and ask any questions you like.

How many miles have you put on it in that many years of ownership?
Also, welcome and that sounds like a cool swap!

please tell us more about your whipped whipple

I have a 2000 3.0

if I ask to buy the whipple please for God's sake tell me NO! :icon_thumby:

Bought it with 30k and at 145k the odometer quit. It’s ran another 5 years without an odometer, so no telling on the miles

It was a 1.2 liter kit that was made for the rangers. I put it on with headers, injectors, and tried to get it tuned. Drove it about 2 days and lifted the heads, so I put in 12.9 bolts from a guy in Canada that does v6 Ford performance parts. I then had a different guy tune it. Drove it about 5 years that way until the wife snapped the crank into it. If anyone is interested I’d make a deal on the whole motor, supercharger, and computer.

Package deal eh? I'm always down for acquiring un needed usless junk more great stuff I can screw around with.

hopefully you're more than 500 miles from Toledo so I won't be tempted to come and get it. :icon_thumby:

how did the Wipple perform? I don't recall ever reading about how they ran.

gas mileage?

intercooled?

octane needed?

tire life?

Gas mileage was about 13 MPG, but I’m running 33 12.50’s, it wasn’t intercooled it ran around 7 PSI but for some reason in a long pull through the top of 3rd gear or 4th it would but 10 PSI. The tune was done on 91 E-10. I wasn’t impressed with my tune below 2000 RPM. It was real lurchy and finicky. Mh truck was a standard and I think an auto would have helped a lot of that. But above 2000 RPM the truck ran great. Never had to down shift up long hill. I could running 50 MPH and gain speed easily, whereas before the little 3.0 didn’t like the big tires.
