99 Ranger XLT 4x4 with torsion bar ball joint

Hey all out there! Need your help. Went to replace the CV Axle and found upper ball joint bad. Got it pressed out. Went to put new part in. Doesn't match. Called Detroit Axle and they claim I have to buy the entire upper control arm with the ball joint. Why is this? Do I also have to replace the lower control arm or can I find the OEM ball joint for that? I am stumped on why. Any feed back is appreciated. Never done this before and really don't want to get into replacing the control arm as from research obviously an alignment is required right away but nearest shop for that is an hour and a half away.

Some vehicles are like that, and make you buy the whole arm.

I looked up your truck on rockauto, Dorman sells a upper balljoint only, but they say it only fits aftermarket arms, not the factory arms. It is Dorman 539982. If your complete arm has been replaced before, it may fit.

If you look up the whole control arm, they do not look too expensive.

Thank you! Yea I went ahead and bought the control arm kit. No way around it. Just sucks taking all the time to get that upper ball joint out to discover this little tid bit.
