I am getting a 99 Ranger 3.0 with a seized motor. Are there any parts that are interchangeable with my 92. Both are 4wd, mine is standard transmission and the 99 is automatic. The body is in real good shape but the frame behind the driver side rear wheel has had a piece of angle iron welded to it to support it. I don't know if it is because of rust or an accident? The owner only wants $100 for it so I couldn't resist. I can't put the body from the 99 on my frame can I? Any opinions are welcome.

What is wrong with the 92? There are just enough changes between the 92 and 99 to make any swaps from or to each truck to make it a complete pain in the ass. The frames and front suspension are different and the 98+ regular cab is 3 inches longer. If only you got a 97...that would almost be bolt on for frame swap.

Look for a 98+ 3.0 truck with a blown transmission to compliment your 100 dollar parts truck.

My 92 has a lot of rust, driver side floor, cab corners and most of the bed. I got the 99 from the husband of the young lady that cuts my hair. It was their sons and something went wrong and it seized the motor. The body is in real good shape so I was hoping I could use it on mine but I had read on TRS that there were several changes since the 92 was made. The local junk yard was only going to give $150 with the wheels and tires and tires are new so he asked me if I would take it for $100 with out wheels and tires. I couldn't resist but I don't know what I am going to do find a motor or sell it as is to someone on TRS for a good price.

99 Ranger motor

Can someone tell me what other vehicles I can get a bolt in motor for a 99 Ranger 4x4 3.0 automatic. Does it have to be a 99, does it have to be a 3.0? My son spotted a 2003 Explorer on line that had a 3.0 and a bad transmission.

I suspect the 03 will swap into the 99 pretty easy. Worst would be swapping the intakes to make it work. But I don't have personal experience with that generation engines.

The only 6-cylinder engine in the '03 Explorer is the SOHC 4.0. The bolt pattern on the 3.0 Vulcan is unique, only a Vulcan 3.0 will mate to your transmission. One out of an old Aerostar will fit. Taurus/Tempo FWD won't work unless you swap heads, water pump and intake because of reverse coolant flow through the heads.

Another Ranger 3.0l shouldn't be THAT hard to find.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping there were some other cars or trucks that had the same engine just to have more options. I'm thinking that 1 from a Aerostar would be cheeper because there would be less interest. That is a guess.

Happy Thanksgiving
