i need to know which marks are the correct timing marks on the cam and oil pump gears. ive tried about 50 different ways and i cant get it right. on the cam i have a notch and a diamond; the mark on the rear timing cover to set to is a triangle. On the oil pump gear there is a notch and a diamond; and a triangle to on the rear cover to set to. running the notch on both fires but is out of time, notch to diamond runs but is still off time. triangle to diamond to timing marks dont fire at all. any help would be awesome- thanks

clean the backplate throughly, you will find a triangle stamp and a diamond stamp on each of these along with the huge dimple. notch has nothing to do with the cam timing. At TDC, the triangle stamp lines up with the triangle timing mark on the back cover at the cam pulley and the diamond stamp on the oil pump pulley lines up with the diamond timing mark on the back cover at the oil pump pulley.

On the back timing cover at the camshaft you will see three small parallel lines, usually white at about the 5 o'clock position. The triangle is used on the cam tooth, and lines up with the center of the three marks.

On the auxilary shaft, I don't think it matters as it does not have a position sensor. On those that do, the diamond lines up with a diamond on the back cover. It will be straight up.

The crankshaft needs to be top dead center(TDC). The keyway that holds the pulley will be straight up for tdc. There is a small dot on one of the crank teeth, and it will point to the leading edge of a notch in the front seal housing at about the 1 o'clock position.

After installing the belt, turn the engine by hand in the proper direction of rotation, clockwise standing in front of the engine looking at it, a couple of rotations and recheck the timing. You may have to re-set if the belt has too much slack. You want it to be dead on. shady
