99 ranger serpentine belt

HELP I'm LOST - 99 ranger serpentine belt

:bawling:I changed the alternator today and can't get the serpentine belt back on. I loosened the tensioner with a 11mm socket but can't push it (tensioner) far enough counterclockwise (down) to slip the belt back on. I changed altenators on old cars, but this is my first experience with serpentine belts. Why can't I get it back on? ROOKIE HERE!:icon_confused:

When I do a septentine belt on a 4.0 I route it on all the pullies except the idler pulley, then after pulling tension slide it on the idler.
 
You just need more leverage on the tensioner, and as wvcat said get it on everything else and slip it onto the smooth idler pulley.
 
Thanks. I tried that but no slack. How do I get slack? Push down on the tensioner? Use a pry bar to get it on the "smooth" pully?
 
I use a long 3/8 flex ratchet and start with it by the waterpump pulley and pull it over towards and past the alt.
