Gents, some time ago my daughter was driving the Ranger and it came to a point where you could put it in gear, let off the clutch and nothing would happen.

99, extra-cab, 4x4, 3.0, 5-speed, electric xfer case.

I assumed something went bad in the trans. I stole the cab off it and am building a 4500 Class KoH rig, but need to sell the rest of the Ranger.

Had a guy come over today to look at the engine, he wants' it, so I pulled it today.

Once I got it apart, I pulled the clutch disk/pressure plate off and am thinking there's a different issue than the trans.

Looks like the splined section that should sit over the trans input shaft has broken off and is floating in the center of the clutch disk. I can see that **possibly** this might have been some kind of odd floating design, or it's flat out busted away from the disk. Imagine the splined section in the center of this disk pic is moving, not in concert with the disk.

I can't image that would work, but just in case....
TIA, Joe

Yeah, it sure sounds to me like you started parting out a good truck over a bad clutch.

Indeed; however, it was really just the excuse I needed to get moving on my project I wanted to build.

And the bonus is the trans is still good, gotta be worth more than I expected to get.
Thanks, Joe
