99 ranger 5.0 swap using 96 ex motor questions

Hey ranger fan im back again almost done with my swap.
99 ranger 4.0 4x4 to 96 explorer 5.0
I got most of the engine connected to get it started ( no coolant or power steering) belt is removed. I wanna hear it run before i slap the rest of it together.


My problem is now the dreadful PATS
When i have the key on start it cranks but no start. I noticed y fuel pump isnt priming either.

Im not to sure what to do or where to go from here.
 
If you google it enough, I believe you can ground out the truck PATS to defeat it, not sure which circuits. A member "gt40" has posted about this recently on another Ranger forum.
This can be done because the 1996 Explorer ECU does not have PATS.
 
Yeah i been going crazy on this site and others trying to figure this out. I know someone else has gone trough this before, but there are tons of post about PATS typicall nothing i can use. Just trying to get straight to the point. But thanks ill keep looking.
 
It's not pats. The 96-97 ECU does not have pats, doesn't matter if the vehicle/dash harness does. You have a wiring issue with your fuel pump relay. The ECU has a furl pump ray output and a fuel pump signal input. Both of these need go be connected in order for the ECU to control the fuel pump relay...

Ok i figured it was because of the flashing theft light while cranking but im comparing both evtm as we speak
 
The transponder sends a signal to the ECU verifying the correct or incorrect programming from the key. The ECU then either blocks or allows spark and fuel for the engine to fire. Since your ECU (ECU code xdt1, xdt2, sll1, sll2, sll3, or sll4) does not have pats, the signal from the transponder does not matter. An easy mistake to make, but have you installed the 5.0 ecu or still have the 4.0 ECU in the firewall?

What wiring did you do, and where in the harness did you do them? I'd double check that you have power and ground to the ECU, and that you have the fuel pump relay connected correctly. It only takes 5 wires for the 96-97 explorer 5.0 to run. I've done several swaps in various vehicles using this system...

I double checked my wiring i have the:
Fuel pump relay control
Fuel pump monitor input
Power to the ecu relays match up
Charging wire to the power dis box
Starting solenoid wire to the power dis box
 
( bulk Head connector)C124 ranger to explorer c115 engine controls
( under abs pump connector)C182 ranger to explorer c123 charging and starting

Thoes are the two connectors that i so far have done wiring changes to.

I have a feeling that the pats needs to be grounded.
 
Well i went through wiring and came to the conclusion that pats isnt just in the ecu. I found this out because when i went to find the power at the fuel relay it had no power. Basically i traced it back to the pcm power diode and that too has no power but my pats is also connected to that circuit.

I was wondering if an immobilizer would help me in this situation. I get code 16 from the theft light.? Idk if the immobilizer just by passes the key or the pats unit itself?

....... Anybody?
 
Did you check the line feeding the relay, or the line feeding the ECU? Did you also check the fuses for power coming in? If the fuse feeding it is good, then check what's feeding the fuse. When I did my system in my Trac I didn't have that issue. I used a 96 ECU til I got my 99 ECU tuned (yes, you can run a 99-01 explorer 5.0 using a 96-97 ECU, it'll just get really bad fuel mileage from running pig rich).
