99 explorer transfercase ?????

im looking at buying a 99 explorer eddie bower. loaded, real nice and clean it has only 84000miles. but when you shift into 4x4 high no problem works fine. but when you stop put it in neutral shift into low, it goes into low but start to drive about 10ft then it shifts back into 4x4 high even though the swith is on the low position???

Is it REALLY shifting into high, or does the low range light go out?

If it's really doing it, you would expect a bang and a solid jerk as your engine and transmission instantly try to halve their speeds.

The part time 4WD transfer cases are unsynchronized between low and high.

well the low light goes out then the high light is on. and somtimes u can feel a little clunk when it jumps out of low
