I'm sure this is covered somewhere, but there is so much information here if you don't search exactly right you'll never find it - so I'll apologize up front. I have a 94 Ranger that I bought with a blown head gasket - worst I've ever seen. I have available to me (CHEAP) a 99 Explorer with a low miles beautiful 4.0. Can I swap the 99 into the 94? If so, what do I need besides the engine? The Ranger is 4x4 the Exporer is 2WD Thanks. Greg

I did a '96 into a '94, which is basically what you're trying to do. Pretty much a direct swap...you'll want to use your old intake manifold, and the '94 doesn't use the cam position sensor, so you can leave it disconnected, or just replace it with the oil drive gear from your old engine. In my case I also swapped oil pans, because my '94 had the oil level sensor in it, where then new engine did not.
