99 Dome Lights

Part number? 5 speed 1999

@RonD
Seems like door doesn't have to be open for the dome light to come on for mine. If it's locked and you just lift the handle the light comes on then goes off after awhile. I was thinking it was some kind of theft deterrent because it's tied into the locks. If it's -not- locked and you lift the handle, the light doesn't come on, unless you fully open the door. So it's more complicated than simply door-open / door-closed. The GEM must detect "it's locked" and activate the light simply on handle lifted, while it doesn't when not locked.

4x4, that things worth bucks
lol yeah but just how many bucks is the question. There are zillions of 4x4. I like to think mine is worth more because it has buckets which you really don't see that much and maybe not all the options but pretty much so. But here's the thing, assuming you didn't get a loan for it, it's dollar worth only comes into play for 2 things. First, if you go to sell it, and if you have a truck you like, why would you sell it, especially when the older ones don't have all the automatic safety features which sound like a nightmare plus they are easier to work on. Second, if you are into calculating your net worth and count it as an asset, but if you're not selling it then it's not a liquid asset plus you'd probably be replacing it.
All that said, it's still nice when somebody says that!

In newer trucks, the switch is in the door latch system. Not at the door hinges like older trucks. Activating the door latch activates the courtesy lights circuit.

Yes, you may have a RAP module with a driver's door switch which is different than the door closed/open switch which it also has

RAP module can be basic or also have an alarm function
If you have/had Keyless entry then in 1997 you will have a RAP module

Below is the full meal deal alarm RAP wiring, which was a pay extra option, but there were versions without the alarm, but usually had keyless entry

But in either case you must have the 2nd switch in drivers door that activates the GEM(and battery saver relay) when exterior door handle is moved
