99 delay/acc power to radio?

So my 99 has an after market radio, a harness from the factory wiring & a harness to the back of the radio; but those 2 harness wires are just twisted together.

I see the 99 has auto delay accessories like the windows; but the radio kills immediately.

Is one of the factory wires hot until a door is opened? If not where can I easily tap into the window/accessory hot to run it to the radio?

I tapped into several wires today with a test light; couldn't find a hot one in the radio cavity. I did finally find a blue/black(I think) wire in the pass kick panel; but hope there's an easier place to tap into.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Our 99 Ranger's radio goes off immediately. It is also an aftermarket, but hooks to the power source for the factory radio. Never knew anything about an auto delay for accessories, but ours is just hand crank windows so maybe that is an option?

Our 02 Explorer definitely has a delay that keeps power on radio and windows until the door is opened. That delay currently isn't working because something in the electrical makes it think a door has opened or something like that.

I should also note that the Ranger also has something funny with the interior light wanting to stay on but no indication on dash of door open if it has one so maybe it is like the explorer as to why there isn't any delay. It has had the interior light problem since it was purchased used.

Yea, mine has power windows, and a delay relay to keep then powered until a door is open.

I had dome light issues too; lubed the heck out of all 4 door latch/switches; finally startede working normally.

The Accessory Delay relay is located in a plastic box, just left of center, under the dash.

You should be able to see it by laying on your back looking up, with your head close to the gas pedal. I can't recall seeing it with the radio bezel removed, but you might.

I have that circuit schematic in a .pdf file from the 2000 EVTM. PM me your e-mail address if you want it (and more).

Do you even have a Door Ajar (red) light in your dash? Someone may have pulled the lamp out.......

I am looking at the 99 wiring book and I am not convinced that the radio is supposed to be on the accessory delay relay at all. It kinda looks like its just the windows.

That's what I'm trying to achieve; if it wasn't that way, I want it to be taped off the acc relay so it stays on until doors open.

Accessory delay relay is near the bottom of the dash, center of the glove box. Tap the radio power into that with it's own in-line fuse.

Did it!

Found the lt blue/black wire coming from the relay behind the radio & heater vent, tapped into it & spliced it into the former 12V+ feeding the radio, and now I have tunes until I open the door!
