99 4x4 5sp to AOD???

I just picked up a cheap 4.0 4x4 supercab ranger. It currently has a 5spd. I saw a towing weight table on another forum that said the 5spd will only tow 3140llbs, where it said the AOD would tow 5600lbs. So first i'd like to know if that's true??? If so, instead of dealing with a new clutch when this one goes, i would like to swap in a AOD trans. I'm guessing i'd need a trans, column, cluster and computer from an auto truck, what else??????

ok, have read a few sources all showing the 5sp manual is a lower rating due to the clutch, is there a good aftermarket clutch kit that would allow me to reach that 5500lb area so i can tow my race car???? If not i still need to know what all to swap from an auto

belive me, those things can tow more than they say....guy i know has a 1990 2.9 5 speed 2wd. Filled the back up with white oak (VERY heavy trees) and it hauled it around. front wheels were near off the ground. It all depends on how often you'll be towing your car?

And yes, there are heavy duty clutches out there. Do a google search for something like "plowing/towing clutches" or "Heavy duty clutches"

The "tow ratings" assume that the idiot behind the wheel doesn't know how to drive.

I've towed stuff with my manual trans that would've killed the auto.

And IF the auto WERE an "AOD" I'd trust it, but it isn't, presuming it's the truck in your user name it's a 5R55E.
