I'm going to be changing the ball joints soon and had a few questions. I've been reading on a few other sites and saw that the upper control arm has to be changed out with the upper ball joint. Is this true for all models? I have the 2WD version with coil springs.

Also, is there any tips or advice you can tell me to make the job easier? Thanks in advance.

Mine had to be. I tried to press the ball joints out at a buddy's machine shop and that did not work. He told me to buy new uppers. The upper arms I bought new are the type that you can press them in and out. I bought the Moog greasable type (Zerk fittings). They are really the best to buy since they will last longer. Some people on this site have said they were able to press their ball joints out and some say they could not. My Ranger is a 2wd and if a machinist buddy looked at them after we tried to press them out and then told me I could not press mine out then I know he was telling the truth. He has been a Ford mechanic for over 30 years.

Hope this helps you out, Bro!!
