98 ranger tcase problem

so recently my tcase has given out i think...2wd is fine, soon as i put it in 4 high or 4 low, give it a touch of gas i hear this HUGE clunk clunk bang sound right beneath me. we put it up on the hoist and the front driveshaft doesnt even move it just turns halfway and "skips" and goes back..turns halfway and "skips" with alot of noise!!!

is the tcase the problem??? because the last time i used it it worked fine, i even replaced the front hubs not to long ago, and now al the sudden its shot? how does that happen when i didnt use it that much

I recommend that you remove the shift motor and select 4Hi and 4Lo manually and try driving it.

There is a triangular drive that you turn with a pair of pliers to the index marks on the transfer case case.
