Been long time ago, I modified the factory ranger crossmember and used the super coupe factory motor mounts. Made custom bracket for the compressor.

Arright boys. Starting over from square 1. The obd2 swap isn't going to work out for reasons I won't get into. I'll have to run a T-bird obd1 ecm. Which I'm fine with, and in fact prefer. However, I need to figure out what will be different on the truck end. First question is the tach. The obd1 system used a different color wire, and I'm not sure it will be the same signal. It is, however, on the same ecm pin. #48

What kind of signal is the stock tach wire on the Ranger giving anyway?

Any other compatibility thoughts?

Correction: wire color and number is the same. Tan/yellow #11.

I do really need the pinout for the 42 pin connector if anyone has it. That would be a huge help.

Obviously not getting a lot of attention or interest with this thread but I'll ask again. Does anyone have the pinout for the 42 pin connector, for a 98, manual, 2.5?

Small update. Heads and intake are on, valvetrain is in. That's the good news.

Bad news: I have 2 bad injectors. They were full of rust, so no surprises there. Good grief injectors aren't cheap.

I bought one from a junkyard when I swapped the last engine. I figured 35 year old OEM is better than aftermarket these days.

Ron Francis makes a kit for a stand alone harness, what I used years ago. It is little pricey these days.

Did you resurface the cylinder heads?
The 3.8L block were notorious for blowing head gaskets & warping....
Thats what you have there....
Are you replacing timing cover gasket?
Resealing the oil pan replacing the rear saddle lip seal?
Have no idea why you would want that engine in a ranger, but good luck...
