I'm new to this forum but have but have gotten alot of usefull info in the last few months here. I'm working on a 98 ranger with a 2.5 auto for a friend. It starts just fine and idles smooth, I can quickly rev the engine all I want to any rpm that I want but when I try to hold any rpm above idle it will do it for about 2 sec. then will stall out as if the ignition was shut off. If I let off of the throttle before it completely stalls it goes right into a smooth idle. I have know idea as to why it is doing this, and it is not giving any codes at all. My first thought was a fuel filter but I don't think that is it when I can keep high rpm's with quick raps on the throttle. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Here's a suggestion. Check your fuel pressure. See if you're getting a consistent rate. If not, you could be looking at an issue with your fuel pressure regulator, or possibly your fuel pump. Not sure this is it, but it seems like it would be a good place to start.

clean the maf, the iacv, the throttle body and change the fuel filter. these are maiantance issue that should be done...if the problems persist check fuel pressure

I only get a chance to work on this for about an hour or two on Sundays because of a 6 day work week. So I replaced the fuel filter today and checked the fuel pressure (64 psi consistantly when running), still doing the same thing. I checked the IAC valve and it was sticking, so I cleaned it and got it working but still no change. I did notice that if I let it warm up completely that I can hold the rpm's a little higher before it stalls. I attempted to drive it down the road but I am unable to give it enough gas to get any more than idle down the road. It has a new MAF sensor on it already. I'm at a total loss, maybe time to take it to a shop. Thanks for all help and ideas.
