My son's 98 model 3.0 stated over heating recently, I changed the thermostat
flushed the coolant, took out the grill and cleaned the condensor,
Water pump is doing ok, have good circulation, Problem only starts when he turns on the A/C,

I told him the a/c didnt feel as cool as it should, nothing like my 06
but being a 22 yr old he is happy with any cool air.

Any ideas ?

thank you

Dave

I'd suspect the fan clutch first.

Then I'd suspect the cycling switch (also called the low pressure switch) on the receiver/dryer.

Does the compressor cycle on/off or stay engaged for more than 30 seconds or so? If it's staying engaged for extended periods, the cycling switch could be bad AND be low on refrigerant. If it ends up being low on refrigerant, ADD OIL when it gets serviced. Cycling switch is pretty cheap and doesn't require de-servicing, just screw it out and new one in.

And me? I'd like to know what "over heating" means to him? Could be a sensitative sendor and gauge if it doesn't puke it's coolant out. Just because the temp needle goes up some doesn't mean it is overheating..
