98 Malibu Dead, How to get gas out?

My step-moms 98 chevy malibu blew a head gasket a few weeks ago right after she filled the gas tank. We decided the car was a loss and I got her into a nice 03 ranger. We're having the local guy with a tow truck that'll give you $100 for a broke down vehicle come out and take it away in the next dew days. She wants to try to get that full tank of gas out of it before it gets taken. I tried to get a siphon into it but I guess it has an anti-siphon screen. Any other ways to get it out for her?

If it's just going to be junked, I'd lift it up and drill a small hole in the bottom of the tank, and just get a couple of good clean 5 gallon buckets under it

I thought about doing that but I don't have access to a lift and it won't run to get it anywhere. I'm also not real comfortable with the safety of drilling into a gas tank...

If I cut a rubber fuel line and put it into a tank and then turned the key to the run position would the fuel pump just run until it was empty since it won't reach the desired pressure in the line?

The pump will only run for 2 or 3 seconds but if you can find the pump relay you could pull the cover off it and squeeze the contacts together. or just remove it and short the appropriate pins.

Remove the fuel pump and siphon fuel through there. If you can get at it by removing the rear seat cushion then, all the power to you. I assume thats how it is because alot of cars have their fuel pumps right underneath the rear seat cushion. And I wouldn't recommend having the fuel pump pump out the fuel through the line as that fuel will be coming out at 41+ psi. But thats just me.

This sounds like the way to go. Anyone know if it is in fact under there? I'm gona go check and try this in the morning...

i was always fond of the screwdriver/hammer over a 5 gallon bucket method lol.

i did have an old firefly junked with a full tank, just popped a fuel line off the throttle body and stuck it into a jug and kept turning the key on and off for the fuel pump to run. took a long time but it worked.

my 98 dodge avenger had the fuel pump under the back seat there may be some sort of like insulation or something over top of it aswell
