98 ford ranger

I have a 98 ford ranger 4*4 3.0 L and bought a 4.0L off a97 ranger thinking it would fit the 98 but doesn't so my question is if i buy a 97 the automatic transmission off that 97 that is 2wd will it fit onto the transfer case of the 98 ranger
