I would be tempted to sacrifice a deep socket by grinding it to fit. If I was stuck. It wouldn't be the first time, I have modified a tool or a car to make a job possible. Ive had the same make, model and yr BMW for 19 yrs Several special tools have been replaced by hammers and saws :D

I spoke with my father about it. He said the valves have both been replaced already at the high school. He is an administrator so it just seemed easier to give them the work. Its not something I would have done but its already been done.

So I can only assume that they did something wrong or failed to realize there are some clips missing. When I have time some time this month I will remove the intake manifold and have a look for myself. I am ok with tools so it shouldn't be too hard. I did a heads, cam and headers job on a gto I had.

Anything else I should look for? or any other areas to check? Im not sure exactly where the clips attach to. But I assume that will be evident upon removal of the intake manifold.
Does anyone have a picture of them attached or is it something I will obviously see?
