my girl has a 98 explorer and i think it needs a right front wheel bearing. i found a site, http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php, where i can buy just the inner and outer bearing (if thats what's in the front) in stead of the whole hub. can i buy just those bearing or do i need the whole hub.

Thanks
Dan

It depends on if her Ex has pressed in bearings or the bolted in ones. I've changed both types. Dads Escape (old one) has pressed in, PITA. Wife's Ex has bolt in and so does my F-350. The bolt in ones are loads easier and faster. It is now a 'feature' I look for in trucks when I look at them.

Mind you the older trucks had inner and outer bearings that rode on a spindle and used lock nuts to hold it all together.

Looks like a bolt in. Easy job. If its stuck in there just get your BFH and a large cold chisel. There are reliefs on the hub. Put the chisel there, There are no options for an inner and outer on those trucks. A hub is the option.

Yea its just a replaceable hub assembly, its not serviceable.

thanks guys. that sucks bc the hub is like 175 and the bearings are only 8 and 6$ but idk why they say u can get just the wheel bearing under the 98 explorer. wierd but thanks guys.
