so i just put a pioneer headunit in my explorer. and i hate the way it sounds with the stock amp in place. where is this amp located? and is it worth it to buy the plug and bypass it, or just run my own wires to the doors?

i have four pioneer 6 1/2s going in the doors. so whatever option will sound best ill do.

thanks

Bumpety bump. Kinda need to do this today so any help is much appreciated

My 91's amp was on the passenger side, right behind the rear seat and directly under the window. It was underneath all of the plastic paneling. I believe they put it there so it was close to the factory sub, mine had a place for another amp on the bracket.

Oh, and have fun. It's a b***h to take that panel out and not break something.

yeah i found it. i tried what they say on explorerforums to hard wire the 2 connections, but it didnt work, so i just ran all new speaker wire to all 4 doors.

working in a body shop, i take door panels off enough to know what to look for.

that panel wasnt THAT bad to get off. just too ksome thinking and patience.

thanks though shane

I also took mine off when it was colder than a witches tit outside, and maybe that played a role in the push pins breaking. I actually was putting a Clarion sub in there, so I did the harness to bypass mine. Hopefully it sounds good now!
