what has everyone used for exhaust manifolds on a 5.0 in a 98 or newer ranger? what kind of clearence issues did you have? any headers thatll work?

As far I've seen, the only three that work in the chassis are the stock Explorer ones (tube or cast iron ones), the discontinued FRPP ones and the ones from Torque Monster Headers. They were for the most part designed to fit the GT40 "P" heads with their unique spark plug angle, comes straight out. Use with standard heads and you'll be burning plug wires unless you go with short boots and 90 deg wiring. I posted that picture of the drivers side on your other thread about mount/oil filter. You can see there how the exhaust port exit upwards for clearance, same goes on passenger side. Think someone was able to use the Tri-Y's but can't find that info now. Maybe someone else can jump in with better info. Bob at Torque Monster will build the headers to suit what suspension, year of chassis and type of heads you have but run about $780.

The Torque Monsters have a similar construction on both sides.

I've searched and searched for info on other headers that might work and have had zero luck, I have heard on another site that try-y will work with some flatning of pipes which is out of the question for me as I could not sleep at night knowing I had bent a header to make it fit, because i'm kind of silly about things like that. I hope someone comes up with a good fitting header soon, other than a 795.00 one...Mike

I can't see how in a stock 98+ 4x4 Ranger engine bay. The Torque Monsters barely fit and they are custom tailored for the application. Maybe there's a bit more room with the 2WD coil spring trucks but it would still be tight.

Unless you're willing to settle for the highly compromised stock 5.0 Ex exhaust manifolds, the TMH are the only off-the-shelf solution for 98+ 5.0 Rangers. You should be able to ease the pain a little by registering at www.Explorerforum.com. Unless things have changed since I bought mine, Bob will give a $100 discount to any member of EF who requests it. His screen ID there is RCPASQ.

Just got off the phone asking Bob why my latest order had been delayed so long. Things going on with him as with most of us. This is his part time job. Said the discount only applies to the smaller collector size, not the larger ones that I have bought. He is always willing to talk and explain why there are all the differences in his different designs.

can we cover what clearence issues there would be using a 1992 f-150 5.0? reason i ask is my truck is off road only and have removed all stock crossmembers/suspension mounts and will more than likley be using full hydro steering by the time its done. to make things easier it also has a 3" body lift.

You're moving into ground that I don't anyone here can help with, maybe try the 4x4 section. You're the one that's going to have to determine what's going to fit and what's in the way. I think most of the V-8er's have just stuck with the existing suspension and worked around it.
