98 4.0 wont stay running video included

that red light on top is the battery light right? your battery or alternator might hav a prob take em to get em tested

would that realy keep it from running once its started? even with the jumpers hooked up it does the same thing so i dont think its a charging issue. plus i know the battery is good it came out of another truck.

could be your maf i had a problem once when with mine when i installed it backwards with my CAI and it would run then stall right away so iv heard one thing to try is to unplug it and see if it will run i have never tried to unplug a maf then start it on a ford but i know with gm's it will keep running perfectly fine.

just asking because i have the same problem, what is a cai? the full sensor name

Try turning on the key to cycle the fuel pump a couple of times to put more gas in the line.Mine used to do that a couple of times if it sat for 4 days or so.When I took out the fuel pump to change the gauge the hose on the pump was old and soft.I put a new hose with clamps were talking about 2" long from the pump to the hard line.I think as it sat it slowly leaked the pressure out around the old hose and the system doesn't start off with the right amount of pressure.Maybe as the fuel leaked out it got air in the system right behind the pump.

Do you have a security key? you know the one that won't let you run the truck without it?

I have seen keys that will run the vehicle for a few seconds and then the computer realizes the security key isn't in the ignition and shuts it down.

thanks for all the responses guys. it turned out to be that it was not getting enough gas and yes i took the intake off to see if it was plugged up and it was not. then i started it and it ran great. it will not run with the maf plugged in so i am going to clean up the one from the explorer tommarow and through it on ( its covered in mud from the last trip to the cliffs, even the inside, idk how there was no cel). otherwise its running great now. it will not go anywhere in reverse but it moves forward in drive, i have not actually taken it on the road yet. im going to post something in the trans section on here. for all you guys with similar problems it turned out to be the maf.

I would suggest changing the trans. fluid and filter, cleaning the pan etc. and i had the same problem with the maf sensor, but the serpentine belt was slipping and i didn't know it. It squeaked but i thought it was a bearing in one of the pulleys. I bought a belt dressing and it fixed my problem, plugged the maf in and it worked. It shouldn't be a problem area because filtered air flows through it. Ford designed that part to be able to be cleaned but not repaired and they cost around $100 where I live.

and like others have posted, unless it is actually faulty, when you turn off the engine or it shuts off, it should burn off any contaminants unless there is another cleaner that wasn't meant to be used on that part and gunked it up or physical obstructions
