98' 3.0 to 03'

I got a 93 3.0 motor to replace the 98 that blew up. There are some differences between the two correct? What needs to be changed over between the two? I know the intake manifold is different and I believe the valve covers, I'm not sure if everything will go together with the newer stuff or not. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

Compatible engine years for 1998 3.0

I bought a 98 Ranger XLT 2x4 shortbed with a bad 3.0 V-6. The engine spun the bearings after the head gasket blew. Owner said the wife drove it 14 miles back home. I guess the white smoke wasn't noticed :icon_confused: I paid $500 for the truck, it will need a new tailgate and rear bumper due...

Biggest issue might be the ECU. 3.0 may bolt and can be plugged on differences but the computer and connections do have differences which can make the swap your doing a headache.

Ford's might be interchangeable but that's usually only for a generation or so. You're talking about a good 5 years man.
