My truck has a few issues, but for now, I would like to discuss my speedometer. The truck is a 97 2WD SuperCab 2.3L 5spd.

The speedometer will work normally, then periodically it'll drop a few mph, or even 10-20. If I let off the gas, the speedometer will jump back to the real speed. I've also noticed that the trip odometer will stop rolling when the speedo acts up.

It also seems to happen more frequently when the ambient temperature is higher outside. My morning commute is usually trouble free with temps around 60-75, but the trip home in 80-95 is a different story. The truck will sometimes buck when this happens, although I think that's a sperate issue.

Any thoughts? I've added an exlplorer overhead console and tapped into the VSS feed behind the radio. I first noticed the problem after doing that, but I think that may be a coincidence.

I've checked the resistance on the VSS and it checked out.
