My credo
"Get busy living, or get busy dying!"
I have a 97 Ranger extended-cab with a bad 4.0 (blown head gasket). The last few years have been leading up to this moment. I always knew that when my engine finally crapped out I would do an engine swap. I'm going to install a 5.0 HO engine with EFI backed by a WC T5 tranny. I will keep the 8.8 rear end.

What I've collected so far are the following parts & pieces:
1) A freshly rebuilt 5.0 HO out of a 91 Mustang. It has a few mild performance upgrades.
2) A Ford Racing EFI main harness for a 5.0 swap
3) Ron Francis wiring injector harness & accessory harnesses that hookup to main harness
4) A9L ECU
5) New WC T5 Transmission & bellhousing
6) New clutch, pressure plate, and TO bearing
7) Advance adapter engine mounts
8) Tri-Y headers & and shorty headers (hopefully 1 of them will work)
9) Oil filter relocation kit
10) and a bunch of other stuff....

I do have pictures....just not sure how to post them here....or if I even can since I only have 2 posts.

The swap starts this weekend...so stay tuned.....

Reads like a nice swap, 2WD I assume?

Wish you were closer, I'd get the 4.0, ecu and harness from you...

RonD, yes it's 2WD.

The engine runs, but it has a blown head gasket on the passenger side. If you lived closer RangerSVT, I would give you the 4.0, harness, and ECU for taking it off my hands. I'm not going to have room for the stuff in my garage after I remove it from the Ranger.

I'll pay the shipping on the ecu & harness, should fit in a large flat rate box...
To post pics you need a web hoster like photobucket, then paste the img code from the uploaded pic...

RangerSVT: is it possible to take pictures from my computer and add them as attachments to a message? I will save the harness and ECU for you.

You might be able to, but I've never had luck with it. I use a host site for all my pics, and youtube for vid clips...
When you pull the harness, try not to cut anything. The trans harness will come out with the engine harness...

Don't use "Post Quick Reply"
Select the Blue "Post Reply" button just below last post, and above Quick Reply.
Once that is open scroll down to "Manage Attachments", click it
A new window will open
Select "Browse" and another window will open showing YOUR computers folders, find the picture or file you want to share and Select it.
Then click "Upload" and that file will be uploaded to this post you are making, you can upload more than 1 at a time.
Make SURE to read the ALLOWED sizes, it is there when you open the "manage attachments" window.

There is a limit as to how much storage space each member has, on ALL forums not just ours, so as Ranger SVT said, many choose to use places like photobucket to store the pictures and files and then post the link here, this is also handy if you want to share the photos with others via email or ??.

My pet peeve, well one of them, lol, is people sending me pictures via email, I DO NOT WANT a 20MB email, don't give a rats a$$ how cute this puppy is, send me a link or loose my address.

Delayed

The plans for starting the project over the weekend hit a big snag. My wife reminded me Fri night that it was Valentines weekend. I kept her happy by staying out of the garage....

Probably kept you pretty happy too. At the very least your healthier than if you'd spent V- day in the garage.

Update

Yes, started working on it last Sunday. It's a slow going process with my work schedule. At this point the 2 pc driveshaft, the transmission, and the exhaust are out. I'm slowly & carefully removing the wiring harness to keep it intact. I will get some pictures downloaded this weekend, and try and post them up here.

Glad you're finally able to get on it. Take plenty of pics...

How's the progress going?

Update

Progress is coming along slowly but surely. I am taking pictures of every step along the way.

Work complete as of 4/15/15: The original engine, transmission, and drive shaft have been removed (engine and tranny up for sale in the local area). The complete wiring harness and ecu have been removed an set aside. The 5.0 has been set in the engine bay (using advance adapters mounts--"loosely mounted").

Work planned for this weekend: bolt up bell housing and transmission. Check clearances, then torque it all in place.

At this point I've discovered that the passengers side motor mount it a PITA....both removing and installing. Tri Y headers do work!

Stay tuned....
