hey everyone, i have a 97 ranger 3.0 automatic with 182K on it. was running fine yesterday, today it wouldnt start. it will crank but wont fire. i did get it to start a few times so i could move it back in the driveway a little but just barely and it turned off. if i give it a lot of gas it would start and then shut off. now it wont do that. i took off the iac valve and cleaned it and let it sit for a while in carb clean a few times but that didnt help. it looks original and has the oem part number and says 97 on it. since the truck has 182K im guessing it is time to replace anyway but i hate throwing money at problems so i just want to see what you guys think? i checked all connections to sensors and hoses and everything looks good and it has half a tank of gas also i hear the fuel pump buzzing when i put it in on position. thanks!

CEL? Loping/poor/no idle?

If the IAC has failed it should start with the throttle applied lightly.

i put a new iac but that didnt fix it and its still doing the same thing. it cranks but i cant get it to start. it sounds like it wants to a little bit but not really. i havent got any CEL lights on and i couldnt tell you what the idle is like bc it wont start. on my 5.0 mustang they had an ignition module which would always go bad and be a crank but no start situation like this. do the rangers have an ignition module that goes bad? where is it located?

The ignition module is built into the coil pack if im not mistaken. Check to see if you have spark shooting from your wires. Fuel from the injectors and I would do a compression test. Just to rule out the basics. You can move on from there.
