Hi guys I am new to the forum. I have been browsing occasionally over the last year or so. There is a lot of good information on here and it is especially nice since this a ranger specific forum. I figured you guys could help. Ok so I was out doing a little offroading in my friends field in my ranger. I had done a couple passes that were really slow since It was wet grass and I have an open differential. I was spinning the whole time and I went to go up this small hill (maybe 10 feet tall) and as the front end started to go up I heard this really loud noise. It sounds like if something inside of tranny is just ramming all the sides. I would imagine a bearing blew up inside and some shaft is just very loose inside, but I have no clue. It is extremely loud and I had to drive it about 1/8 mile to get it back to my friends house. I ended up getting it towed home on a flatbed. Any advise?

if the trans. is working like it should, i'd say your problem is elsewhere (though a trans. is still a possibility....there are plenty of other, weaker links to look at first).

how about a busted hub or front axle shaft, grenaded clutch disk (you were at pretty high RPMs i assume?).

if it does turn out to be the trans., dont bother trying to find the exact problem to fix it...its far more cost effective to just throw a used trans. in.

Hey thanks.

Well so I got my hopes up. I realized that I was only hearing the noise when I would let out the clutch. Since I need to pull the tranny anyways I pulled the drain plug out and this is what I found......

I know this may be bad I think I remember feeling the whole truck shake. The stick was shaking really bad though.

Ouch.

When you get the old one out...I'd dig into it and check out the carnage.

oh and post pics if you find some good damage.

I will. I did it get it out and it was a pain in the ass because of my suspension. I dropped it off. My dad is totally against getting a junkyard tranny since he says I am gambling. So I guess I am going to spend $800-$1200 then I have to get a clutch kit with is $300 with the slave cylinder. He is paying half and loaning me the rest that I need to get back on the road. Anyone know where I can get a socket or a wrench to take off my flywheel bolts?

Also what is needed to be able to put a c-4 in my truck. Will I need an special adapter plate or just find one with a 4.0 bell housing. Is there any mods that will be needed to be done to the drive shaft?

Thanks for all your help guys
-Mike
