Hey everyone. I bought a 97 2.3l ranger recently from someone who said it ran when they parked it. I went to pick it up and tried to start it but it would go so I towed it to the house thinking simple fix. Found out the timing belt snapped on it. So my dad and myself changed the timing belt and still nothing. took the belt off and made sure everything lined up just a little off and tried again. We Did find tdc and all of that as well and even opened the valve cover to make sure the cam was right and still nothing. all plugs have spark and all the coils are good. it turns over but just wont start. so last thing i took the bed off and changed the fuel pump and new filler neck and still nothing. the motor cranks just wont fire. any ideas on what i could have missed or has anyone ran into this problem before? thanks in advance

UPDATE!!!!!!! So for anyone doing a timing belt on a 2.3l don't and I mean DON'T FORGET THE HARMONIC BALANCER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats where we messed up. everything was timed right just didn't put it on when testing because of not wanting to take it off again etc incase something was off then realized that the cam position senson had nothing to read. put it on and BOOM fired right up without a problem.

Thanks for posting, especially the fix.

I've had enough "oops" over the years for a good sized book, and I think that we all have had some,

Great job on getting the truck going. I hope that from here on that it makes for a great truck for you.

thank you for the acknowledgment tbh its nice to hear. i am super excited its up and running now. only thing left is to get a clutch and a slave cylinder and it should be road worthy
