Hello all! This is my first post here,
I have a 1997 Ford Ranger with a 2.3L auto . It primarily is my wood truck (errand truck) .
Approx. a week ago I brought home a load of wood, and parked it in the back of my house, next day I came out to start the car and it was really hard to start, kept cranking n cranking then I had to get my 2nd car to ensure I didn't kill the battery. After a while of cranking I was able to get the truck started, moved it a few feet in front of my shed, and then shut it off, I came back the next day to start the truck, and it refused to start. I checked for fuel to which I had, I checked spark with a spark tester, and had no spark.

Long story short, I got the car to my garage, changed the coil packs, and plug wires plus plugs, still no spark, no start. I changed the pcm , still won't start. I would have pulled the codes from the pcm, but I had disconnected the battery to change the coil packs. I also changed the crank sensor - which was a headache as the mount broke, and I had to fab up another one till I can get the front engine cover. I also changed the camshaft sensor to ... Still no starting n no spark. I have checked the fuses/relay's (gonna double check) - and in the process of checking the starter solenoid on the DS fender.

While cranking - the CEL does come on then turn off while engine is cranking...
Any help, or any tips on sensors to test would be a great help ...

Doesn't sound good. I am starting to have ignition problems too, especially when it is raining. I also know that one of my coil packs is not working.

You must have a short somewhere

Thank you very much for the reply, After I posted this I went in the garage, and started to test the starter solenoid, then I remembered reading another post on here just a few minutes b4 about aligning the cnk sensor .. I moved it over a bit, and tightened it up more, jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver and it fired right up.. Damn so most likely my issue was the crank sensor all along .. ahh it needed a tune up nehow ..

Here's a pic of it overloaded with wood...

Sweet, glad you got it going.
