97 2.3 way too much gas

i am changing my story i have a 1995 2.3 ranmger i put a 97 2.3 motor in last week both are 8 wire setup i try to start and it will run for 1-2 sec than shut off i have been all over this engine, today i pulled the plugs to find t.d.c. and they were black...so i did a very sofisticated test (lets just say it involved a leaf blower in the intake) and she still backfired into the exaust but would stay runnin alot longer, i still could not hold an idle tho, any sugg. would be nice. i already checked/replaced tp/iac/cam/crank/timing.....HELP!! thanks Bob

if your coolant temp sensor plugged in? shorted to ground?

how about fuel pressure? you need to check fuel pressure with and without the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line hooked up

gonna try that today, thanks vaccum gague broke the other day so i need to get another. Also check sending unit any tricks?

don't worry about the sending unit. you don't want to bother with the temp gauge. there is a 2 wire coolant temp sensor (for the engine) and a 1 wire sensor (for the gauge).

you want to check the 2 wire sensor

thanks brutis, i relearned a valuable leson today, never assume anything, (used engine) somehow timing was off took everything down to the crank and found it spun timing retimed and dam if it didnt start up still has a little backfire but it runs so thanks for everything
