I just acquired my second ranger a 97 2.3 2 wheel drive five speed. the truck has absolutely no power, i'm considering putting a turbo on it but having trouble finding out exactly where i can get the parts and what to expect. Can anyone give me info on this or show me where i can find it at. any help is appreciated

I think of you check the tech library there is info there.

I've had the damndest time finding 2.3L turbo info for OBDII engines. It's the reason I haven't turbo'd mine yet (apart from cost). Everywhere you look says to use the OBDI stuff and I don't see why you should take the step backwards in technology. OBDII is fantastic for diagnosing.

look in the forced induction section. you should pry post there too

Standalone is where it's at, OBD1 and OBD2 can take a hike.

yea i have found alot of info on swapping in an obd 1 engine but don't see the reason behind that. the turbo install in the tech library here deals with the obd1 but i have found a site turborangerforum.com that seems to have some info but still having trouble finding exactly what would need to get for the turbo

I always thought OBDII had a pretty good handle on things. What's so bad about it?

Why should I go buy an entirely different system to replace a perfectly functioning one?

That's because I believe all the turbo's Ford put on things from the factory were OBDI, and you snag the harness, computer and everything out of the donor car. Basically your Ranger will think it's a turbo t-bird/mustang/Merkur XR4TI/etc.

Because a standalone has far better control over everything, and isn't vehicle dependant.

stand alone is where its at...im saving up for mine. but the obd1 turbo computer works really well for moderate-higher boost. i run 15 daily and 20 under max on the turbo computer...most i would run on the stock obd2 computer is 6-8psi...unless you tune it. but either way you NEED a wideband o2 sensor and controller so you can watch your air/fuel. i run an innovate lc1 system. because if you go lean under boost your going to melt your internals, even forged

the 5.0 swap is out of the question because i bought the truck for gas milag and already have a big project going on. to put a turbo on my engine could i take the manifolds off an ols thunderbird or svo mustang and swap it onto mine or would it not fit?
