96 starter relay wiring question

my dad's neighbor pulled the wires off of his starter relay and can't remember how they go back on. He burnt up two starters because the relay was hooked up backwards (i think). I told him I would fix it for him but can't find a schematic of a 96 explorer. I believe that all the wires ( the two gray ones and the larger one that runs down to the starter) all go on the battery side of the solenoid and the only wire that goes on the switched side of the solenoid is the small wire (about 12 ga) that runs down to the starter solonoid. Is this right? I don't want to burn up any more of his starters. The chilton manual that he has does not show the schematic of a 96 explorer with a 4.0
:hottubfun: just seen the hot tub and it looked like fun

Yeah, that's sounds right.

FWIW, this is a diagram for using the 4.0L starter on a 2.9L engine (4.0L clutch swap), and I'm almost positive this is identical to the wiring used with a stock 4.0L engine to begin with.

Hope that helps
