What am I looking into as far as replacing the rear wheel bearing? It is getting loud and definitely is needing replaced. I am pretty mechanically inclined, (have replaced the clutch, drum brakes, exhaust, etc.) but if its a big job i'd rather just pay to have it fixed. I tried to search the forums but it just sits there and says "loading" So what am I looking at as far as difficulty and time and what would you estimate the cost of a shop doing the fix? Thanks!

Pulling the rear axle isn't that difficult but at that point I recommend that you take the axle shaft you pull to a machine shop and have them remove to old bearing and press on the new one. You can do it farm boy method like I would but if you haven't done it before its much easier to have it done for you. You might as well go ahead and replace the oil seal on that side while you are at it.

The rear wheel bearing will require replacement of the oil seal becuase the seal is going to get pulled out and destroyed when the bearing comes out.

They aren't hard, I've put them in at the shop. Pull the axle shaft. Get a slide hammer with a puller attachement, knock the bearing out. Then stick a metal plate over the new one and drive it back in with a hammer. Just make sure your axle shaft hasn't been damaged or worn or you will run into problems again quickly.

Thanks for the replies guys, will get at it tomorrow.

Usually by the time the bearing is hosed the axle is toast as well.
