'96 Ranger Urgent Electrical Issue

GEM Module

I found they are also termed "General Electronic Module"

and "Central Timer Module" (by Ford Service Info).

Replaces the GEM Module today. Negative results. With a test light, I looked for power to some of the things that do not work. None have power going to them.

Without brake light & wipers I'm really up the creek. I can do manual turn signaling but that doesn't help much at night, or when it's raining.

I'm now at a complete loss as to where to go next.

I began rechecking relays and fuses. The last two fuses I checked were 50 amp. One controlled pwr to ign, the other controls the "I.P.Fuse Panel" whatever that is

Both fuses looked ok, but I decided to switch them since they were identical. Did the same with relays and other fuses. When I put the fuse that was controlling Ign in the IP side, all my non-working things began to work. When I put the other fuse in the IGN side, I had no power to the ign switch.

PROBLEM SOLVED: Upon looking very closely at the one fuse I saw a minute break at the side of the large internal metal part. It was nearly invisible because of the design of the plastic case. Nearly a week searching and it turned out to be a $3.00 fuse - that I'd inspected, and passed, early-on.

I really appreciate the help of everyone who offered suggestions.

aint that the pits...

Glad you got it fixed tho..

Keep an eye on things... that fuse blew for a reason. hopefully your new GEM module fixed that reason :) but it may rear its ugly head again...

I would bet the fuse fail mechanically and not electrically. There is nothing (a single thing) on that circuit that could pull any where near 50 amps without letting the smoke out!
