96 Ranger..No crank..I turn key...I hear click

Are you talking about a 4 post RELAY like this: http://allpointsbus.com/images/parts/ss598.jpg

Or this: https://showtimeih.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/ABC139-300x300.jpeg

If so, then only 1 small post is used, the one labeled with "S" , this activates the relay if it gets 12volts
"I" post was not used after 1980 or so

A Starter SOLENOID is on the starter motor, the smaller tube on top of the "motor" part

Looks like this: https://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/images/articles-300-399/310/314/image_T_1.jpg

It also has an "S" post, which also activates this solenoid when it has 12volts
And it can have another smaller post, also unused

Yea I'm talking about the relay not the starter solenoid my bad,I typed the wrong thing. So can I file down that extra post? Otherwise this wire harness that the screwdriver is on wont go back on

Yes, the "I" post is not used so you can cut it off or file it down, that post will have 12v when relay is activated so put a piece of tape over it

I gotta ask, whats the black wire for?
It should only have 12v when relay is activated
And then the white wire has 12v full time

I was gonna put some epoxy over it when I grind it down. As far as the 2 wires.... I wired up a temporary toggle switch to crank it Lol. . It is mounted under the steering wheel. Alot easier than raising the hood and sticking a screwdriver in the relay everytime I wanna crank it. Got a new relay this evening and I'll put it on tomorrow and hopefully that is my problem..

Good stuff (y)

Thanks for the update and THE FIX
