Hi everybody

So I'm going to make the big plunge in buying a 302 but.......
the engine is out of a 96 F150, So what kind of problem are I'm going to have
I know I have to change the intake to a mustang one, What about the waterpump??? (One on engine not good). and timing cover?? need to be changed to a mustang one???...

Vehicle info
91 Ford Ranger 2.3L
manual trans
2wd

any help would greatly needed thanks Karl:shok:

The waterpump is the same as the Stang. The only difference between the two motors is the cam (slightly smaller in duration) and the intake system. Everything else is the same as the 93 Stang motor, and the 94-95's cept for the FEAD. You'll need to change the oilpan to a Stang/Crown Vic/Marquis dual sump.

That great I feel so much better, thanks for the info

You also can't use any of the F150's ECU or harness, its OBD2, you will need to get a mustang ECU and harness, or an 86-94 F150 ECU and modify the 2.9L EFI harness...

...or you could use it.

It's still power, ground, and ECU.
Po-tate-o, po-tat-o.

While I was being smart, I wanted to clarify my statement.

If you choose EFI, it makes no difference what so ever if it is OBDI or OBDII, makes no difference for the Ranger or the donor harness.
You will be making the same connections, whether you use an '89 Mustang harness, a '96 Explorer harness, or a 4bbl Holley.

Main ground, main power, then key on power, key and crank power. And that's it for connections back to the truck.
Most EFI trucks will want a VSS signal to the ECU and to the speedometer, but that is already connected in the engine/trans harness and/or in the original Ranger harness.
Same with the fuel system. From an ECU it's a simple trigger to the stock fuel relay (already run...) and you'll need the same thing (or a simple switched power) for a carb.

Just trying not frighten anyone from any of the options.
