need some help from some EX motor guros, here is the deal i got a 96 ex 5.0 no dizzy that needs a rebuilt,i also have a 90 stang 5.0
i took the 90 apart to see what shape the stuff was in (not bad 130k mi )the EX has 245k mi so am pretty sure its going to need a lot more machining work so i was going to redo the stang short block & then put all the 96 EX stuff on it back to stock or whatever combo would be best, but when i was looking up part # hardly any were the same especially the block & crank
not being familiar with 5.0 with no dizzy i am not sure what the diff in the 2 motors are or what will interchange so am not sure how to precede with rebuilt
thx noel

I have run a 97 5.0 ex heads,intake on a 78 F-100 with no problems if i recall right it had a 80 model block.

i know that the heads & intake will swap i am concerned about the crank & block diff to be able to run the crank sensor & coil packs for the non dizzy electronics with the part # being diff for the 96 EX
thx noel

No problem swapping stuff. Just used a '96 Ex shortblock in a carbed/dist setup.

The parts will all interchange. The cranks should be the same (2MAE) the rods in the Ex motor will be the newer castings and the Ex pistons are the Hypereutectic and the mustang are forged. I would use the Mustang block, crank and rods/pistons as they are lower milage and if you ever wanted to add a power adder (Nitrous, Turbo, Supercharger) well you have pistons that will take the abuse. Run the Ex GT40 heads and intake for better performance and use the mustang cam if you plan on using a stock cam. Good luck.
