I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I have a good manual trans out of an 88 2.3, and a set of pedals from a 95. What else will I need?
Are the cross members the same? How about the yoke for the drive shaft. I was also wondering if the electronic speedo sensor from the auto will go into the manual trans. Only other thing I can think of is what clutch do I get for it? I have a flywheel a friend of mine gave me, But I have no idea what year truck it came from. I looked for a thread on here and couldnt find one.
Thanks in advance!

The Driveshaft output spline on the 4R44E is the smaller A4LD size.

The manual trans is certainly an M5OD-R1 trans which uses a larger spline.

The 4R44E is a physically longer trans and requires a shorter driveshaft.

I'm not sure if the trans crossmember will need to be re-positioned.

The Tailshaft mounted VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) will fit.

Thanks for the help!

That definately aswers some big questions. I will get a drive shaft from the pick your part. They had several 93-97 rangers in there and I believe the driveshaft should be the right one as long as it is a shortbox truck.
I have read that I will need the 5spd computer also, is this true? I would think I could short a pin or 2 together so the truck thinks it has an automatic. Not seriously concerned with a neutral safety or clutch switch. I will be the only one driving it (commuter).
I guess the only other question I had would be clutch pressure plate and flywheel.
Not sure what year the flywheel is (it was given to me). Are all 2.3's the same as far as that goes? Are all the pressure plates the same?
I am a fairly good Mech, but mostly Chevy's just for the simplicity in the drive train! BUT!!!!! my 03 Cobra puts the ponies to the ground alot better than the old 99 ss I have. Of course with the commute I have to work, who can afford to drive either one of them on a NAVY salary! LOL
Thanx again!

On an EEC5 truck you certainly will need a 5sp computer

Let me tell you a story about a '97 Taurus my brother built for
one of his neices (wife's family).
We got the car locally to me cheap because it had a sick AX4N trans and the ownere didn't want the expense of fixing it.

Well, my brother had a spare trans for his same year windstar
(which was already at the auction yard to be sold)
and no longer having the windstar he no longer needed the
spare trans... serendipity...

Well one night at work (did I mention he is a Ford Tech?)
he swapped the trans in and drove the car home...

Check engine light.... ?

Checked everything out shifts and drives perfectly check engine light again...

The "problem" is listed by the OBD as "torque converter performance"

Tore it ALL apart swapped in a NEW (not reman) converter

Same problem...

what it turned out to be?

the transmission was performing TOO well, as it had a slightly taller gear ratio because the trans had been built for a 3.8 liter engine

tore it apart AGAIN and replaced the sprocket and all was fine...
She drove that car for a couple of years until she wrecked it.

But the thing is the oddest things will "irritate" EEC5/OBD2

EEC really does look at RPM Vs MPH in the various gears to monitor auto trans performance.

You will DEFINATLY need the proper computer.

As a side note if you need one I've got one right here...

there are "bits" of wiring you'll also need.
(the trans Cat monitor wiring harness)
