I have a miss fire in my 96 ranger with a 4.0l v6 in cylinder #6... I was driving yesterday and the truck started missing and as i drove for a while it got progressively worse until it acted like it lost #6 cylinder and it does this all through the rpm range.. My truck is going through coolant but i did a compression test and with all cylinders all with in range of the book specs and i am still leaking coolant some where but it not showing on the motor any where or inside the cahbeplaced the coil and the spark plug wires which are like a month old and the spark plugs are a couple months old and the crank position sensor is like a month old.... I pulled the #6 spark plug and the spark plug was wet and the spark plug that are in the truck are the stock ones ....I have lost my mind trying to figure it out but with no problem solved ,PLEASE HELP!!!!:icon_confused:

I've got a 1998 2.5L inline 4 with very similar problems. I have been getting the check engine light with the code that comes back cylinder 3 misfire. I took the passenger side spark plug off for cylinder 3 and discovered the spark plug was soaking wet. I'm fairly certain that my problem is a head gasket, because I also have lots of white smoke and moisture coming out of the tail pipe. My truck has 180,430 miles. In addition to the wet spark plug and white smoke, my temperature gauge is fluctuating between half-way and Cold. When it is at half-way, my heater does not blow hot air only mild luke warm air. I've done all methods to get any possible air bubbles or air pockets out but nothing seems to improve the situation. Last but not least, my transmission is showing signs of leakage as fluid is starting to collect around the bolts around the pan. It collects enough to drip on ground. I've snugged the bolts but fluid is still collecting. I've added some Bar's Stop Leak to the transmission and the radiator. Nothing helps. I'm at the point should I repair or get rid of it?

Try some injector cleaner like 44k or switch the injector from #6 to another cylinder and see what happens. What was the plug wet with? Gas or water?

You are going through coolant? Have to checked to see if you're making milkshakes?

You have a head gasket that is either seeping or blown around or near #6 :icon_thumby:

No milk shake and i did the compression test again with the same results and it is a intake gasket leaking coolant and i am going through some coolant but once i put bars leak sealant in the coolant it stops but it also has 293,000 miles on it and its time for a junkyard motor or rebuild but i don't which one would be cheaper or i could find 4.0l block from someone to get rebuild while i am driving truck and i don't have to wait for it to be done....

You know they have a test kit for about $35 that tells you if there are combustion gases in the radiator. It kept me from tearing apart another motor on my pickup recently that had other problems.
