96 4.0L tt help and info needed

The IHI turbo off of the tbirds are crap. They will explode at anything over 12psi. You would be better off look up some nissan sr20 or ca18 turbos. They would be perfect if you ran two of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SR20DET garret t25 turbo, there are also a few that are a bit smaller you can get these for dirt cheap on ebay. Use a 2.5" exhaust pipe coming off of each turbo. The bad thing about two turbos is that you have to buy 2 of everything, oil lines, wastegates, vacum line. If you are set on two turbos use two t3 .60/60 turbos off of the mustang svt. For a single turbo use something like this http://www.nipponpower.com/product.phtml?p=823

Hmmm, ran 17-18 normally and spiked to 21 a couple times when I ran an IHI. It's still a very intact unit.

I thought the IHI's maxxed out at 18psi:icon_confused:

there not going to max out at a certain PR there going to max out at a certain rpm. You don't want them to overspeed as only bad things are to coem afterwards. Boost is just a measure of restriction. If you had a 4.0L that moved alot of air you may overspeed the turbos at 10lbs of boost. Its all about cfm. For example you have a turbo feeding a 4.0L with 8 lbs of boost. If you were to add higher flowing heads the motor would flow more air however the wastegate is still setup to control 8 lbs of boost. This would require the turbo to spin harder to flow enough air to maintain the 8lbs. Boost is just a restriction and that restriction is because the turbo is flowing more air than the motor can consume.
