96-01 3.0 question

I found a 2001 ranger motor for my 1996, just have a few simple questions...

1. Does the 2001 have PATS?
2. If so, How much am i looking to spend @ Ford for re-program & key?
3. Same Motor/Tranny mounts?

Anything else i should know about? Is it worth it?

I spoke with a friend of mine in parts at a Ford dealership. If you have no keys for the 2001 already and needed them made you have to buy 2 not just 1. Yes the 2001 does have pats key. The keys themselves are 25.00 each and to have each key programmed your looking at 60.00 per key. Thats 170.00 for both keys. You would need to have your 96 towed to the dealer so service can program them to your 2001 drivetrain, but that only includes if your using the 2001 wire harness & computer? If your only using the longblock and putting on your 96 harness, 96 intake manifolds, etc, then your fine. You can use your 96 keys, but If your using the whole 2001 setup then your truck will need to be at Ford to program them in.


The motor mounts should be the same.

Alright cool so ill just swap those parts right over? Ive been searching whats different about my 97, & the 2001.
(I don't know why i put 96 in my year its a 97) but it shouldn't matter?

Im honestly still confused ha

Here is the motor im looking at buying but wanna know how much trouble im looking at getting into on the swap. before i buy cause if its gunna cost more then expected i will just do 4.0 SOHC or 5.0

Some guy on dezert rangers said the i may have to change some sensors over, but the pats is an antitheft thing that is a separate module from the ecu & i could use my engine/ tranny wiring harness & ecu from my 97

Is this true?

Will somebody with an 01 help me out here & we can exchange some pictures? I will paypal you some money if it comes down to it.
