I have a 95 for a beater, not worried about under dash damage. Has anyone done a heater core by "modifying" or cutting the heater box then repairing the hole? I have done several heater cores in other vehicles but just wondering if there is a short cut.

I've done up to 91 and they are easy to get to from under the dash. Remove glove box door by depressing the sides and let it drop down, remove screws. You can probably do it without removing glove box but I think it makes it easier to see. Remove about 6 hex screws around perimeter of heater box, I believe 8mm. Panel should drop out and you can access heater core.

Just did my 95. You would have to cut the entire box out. The core is wedged in there. It really not hard to change. Takes 4-5 hours. A lot of work but nothing hard.

I did mine in about 2 hours. Loosen the heater box on the engine side of firewall, remove the bolts holding the inside heater box, pull the dash towards the seats, remove the cover, replace the core, reverse the steps...
